SA Gets More Competitive
According to Productivity SA South Africa's economic competitiveness has increased for the second consecutive year – indicating the country's resilience to the global economic crisis.

Productivity SA said that according to the annual World Competitiveness Yearbook 2010, out of 58 selected countries, South Africa had moved up the ranks four places from 48th in 2009 to 44th in 2010, 11 places higher than in 2008.

The World Competitiveness Yearbook is published annually by the Switzerland-based Institute of Management Development and is internationally recognised as the leading competitiveness survey.

Productivity SA said that South Africa's strong competitiveness was being linked to an increased level of portfolio investment assets and direct investment stocks inward, as investments are diverted to emerging markets that were not overly exposed to the financial crisis for protection.

The Institute of Management Development World Competitiveness Yearbook focuses primarily on four competitiveness factors, namely economic performance, government efficiency, business efficiency and infrastructure.

South Africa performed well in all the competitiveness factors apart from business efficiency, which dropped from 30th position to 31st position when compared with 2009.
