Putting your friendship to the ultimate test

The Dilemma (2011) is a comedy about friendship, trust and adultery.

The movie is about two friends, Ronny (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Kevin James), who are also in business together in the car-design field.

Everything seems to be going great for them when they get the chance to pitch a concept car for a major dealership; Nick’s marriage is going great, Ronny has put his gambling problem behind him and is thinking of proposing to the girl of his dreams.

Unfortunately everything is not what is seems (as is to be expected in almost every movie ever made) and when Ronny is out trying to find the best location to pop the question, he accidentally sees Nick’s wife passionately embracing a much younger, stranger man.

At first the solution is simple, Ronny will tell Nick the truth. But when he is about to approach Nick he sees that Nick is under immense stress trying to perfect their concept pitch.

Ronny then confronts Nick’s wife, but his plan backfires when she refuses to tell Nick and also plans to keep having an affair; she tells Ronny that if he says anything to Nick she will not only deny it but will tell Nick that Ronny has been making passes at her.

Ronny is now thrown into this extremely delicate situation where he has to try and prove to Nick that his wife is having an affair (with a crazy person) without distracting Nick from the project, while Ronny’s girlfriend thinks that all the sneaking around means that he is gambling again.

Be warned: the movie is not as good as the concept of it sounds; it seems like it is going to be a hilarious film at the start, but after the first few minutes of funny gags it quickly switches to being really dramatic. And unfortunately Vince Vaughn’s constant babbling (that he does in every one of his movies) does not help this film one bit.

This movie is very average so if you’re looking for something to make you laugh the whole night give this one a miss. The only real funny thing about the film is how Queen Latifah constantly gives sexual comments to everybody, which is a far cry from a saving grace.
