Stats SA said the utilisation of production capacity for August increased 0,2%
The utilisation of production capacity by large manufacturers rose 0,2% year-on-year in August 2011, according to Statistics SA (Stats SA).
The statistics firm said utilisation of production capacity was 19,8% in August 2011 compared with 79,6% in August 2010.
Of the ten manufacturing divisions, six were seen to increase over the period August 2010 to August 2011, said Stats SA.
“The biggest increases were reported in the motor vehicles, parts and accessories and other transport equipment division (9,1 percentage points), the radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment division (5,0 percentage points), the food and beverages division (2,7 percentage points) and the glass and non-metallic mineral products division (1,7 percentage points).”
The radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment division showed the highest rate of utilisation capacity for August 2011 at 87,4%, followed by the furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing division at 84,0%, the electrical machinery division at 83,3% and the food and beverages division at 83,2%.
