Utilisation of Production Capacity for May| News by Staff ReporterAn increase of 0,7 percent was recorded year-on-year, according to Stats SA Stats SA said in its latest statistical release that utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises for May 2011 showed a 0,7 percent increase year-on-year.The statistics firm said the utilisation of production capacity by large enterprises rose from 80,4 percent in May 2010 to 81,1 percent in May 2011. Of the ten manufacturing divisions, Stats SA said four had reported positive growth in utilisation of production capacity for May 2011. “Increases were reported in the basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery division (2,4 percentage points), the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division (2,0 percentage points), the electrical machinery division (1,4 percentage points) and the food and beverages division (1,0 percentage point),” according to the statistics firm. The highest rate of utilisation of production capacity for May 2011 was seen in the petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products division at 83,6 percent, followed by the radio, television and communication apparatus and professional equipment division at 82,9 percent, the furniture and ‘other’ manufacturing division at 82,6 percent, and the electrical machinery division at 82,4 percent.
