Uniform Brainstorm

| Opinion by Staff Reporter

Unifroms can boost morale, confidence and pride

When moving your company into new premises it might be just as beneficial to pay attention to your staff’s appearance as you do the building’s.

Whether they’ve been in uniform before or not, a new, spotless uniform can motivate your team and instil a sense of pride in your company that was never before there.

Debbie Engelbrecht, founder and CEO of soft skills training company Staff Training, says if done in the right way introducing uniforms to your business can change how your staff behave and how they feel about the company.

“You’ve got to be careful though,” she warns, “because if it’s done in the wrong way it can backfire and lead to all kinds of problems.”

While uniforms can boost morale among staff members and help them to feel like a team, the issue should be raised with them beforehand and not decided only among management.

Failing to include the staff in the decision can make it seem like the new uniforms are being forced onto them, so to speak, which is the perfect way of making sure they’re poorly received.

An ideal time to look at introducing uniforms to the workplace is when a company shifts from a home office to a business park or office block. Uniforms help create an identity for the organisation, serve as walking advertisements for the company and can denote rank.
