Former Apple CEO Steve Jobs died on Wednesday

Steve Jobs, co-founder and former CEO of Apple Inc, passed away on Wednesday 5 October after years of fighting a losing battle against pancreatic cancer.

The news was announced by Apple Inc on Wednesday and led to an outpouring of sympathy and sadness from world leaders, competitors and millions of people across the globe on social networking sites like Twitter, where “iSad” became a trending topic.

While few details of his death have been released, Apple said he was surrounded by his wife and immediate family in Palo Alto, California at the time of his passing.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives,” Apple said in a statement.

“The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.

“His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.”

In honour of Jobs Apple flew the flags outside their headquarters at half mast and changed the image on their website to a black and white portrait of their former CEO with the caption “Steve Jobs: 1955-2011.”
