SEACOM Outage May Last a Week

The SEACOM outage which began on 8 October may take a week to resolve


SEACOM announced that the downtime currently being experienced as a result of a service outage between Abu Talat and Marseilles could take as long as a week to resolve.

According to the SEACOM website their Mediterranean backhaul service provider is experiencing a service affecting outage, which began on Saturday 8 October, affecting all SEACOM traffic to Europe.

“SEACOM is working at restoring our customers on alternative routes and will continue to monitor the situation closely,” it was stated on the website.

SEACOM has not indicated exactly how long the problem will take to resolve but thoughts are that it may take up to ten days for SEACOM to restore all affected traffic.

The underwater fibre cable system, launched on 23 July 2009, is known to have redundancy issues, having suffered outages several times in the past.
