A 2% increase has been recorded in the number of travellers to and from SA

The South African Department of Home Affairs last week said it recorded 3.7-million travellers (including both arrivals and departures) during December.

Of the 3.7-million travellers recorded on the Department’s computer system during December more than 2.5-million were foreigners, according to a statement by Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. He added that 1.2-million were locals.

The Department said these figures represented an increase of 2% compared to the same period last year.

While the majority of visitors to South Africa were from the SADC (Southern African Development Community) countries, a large portion of them also came from the United Kingdom, the United States of America and Germany, according to the Department.
