Retail Sales Quicken to 6,8%| News by Staff Reporter
Retail sales quickened in March, according to Stats SA
Retail sales in South Africa quickened to 6,8%year-on-year in March following a revised 6,7% in February, according to Statistics SA.
“Retail trade sales in real terms increased by 6,8% year-on-year in March 2012,” according to Stats SA.
Stats SA said the highest growth rates were recorded in:
• retailers in textiles, clothing, footwear and leather goods (12,0%);
• retailers in household furniture, appliances and equipment (11,3%); and
• `all other` retailers (9,8%).
A 2,1% increase in sales was recorded on a monthly basis while there was a 5,9% increase year-on-year in the three months ended March 2012, also at constant prices.
These figures are in line with economists’ forecasts.
