Petrol Price Increase Looming

| News by Staff Reporter

Consumers will face higher prices at the pumps in July

The price of petrol in South Africa is expected to rise by between 80c and 90c by next week according to the Department of Minerals and Energy.

Most analysts agree that the primary reason for the increase is the weak rand exchange rate.

The increase is expected to cause some strain for already cash-strapped consumers. Taxi-owners have indicated that they intend to raise the prices of fares, with bus companies adopting a wait-and-see attitude.

Meanwhile the international oil price is rising on the expectation of an improving US economy.

The finalised petrol price increase will be published later today.
