Musgrave Centre Gets Makeover

SA Corporate Real Estate Fund announces plans to improve one their flagship buildings

The Musgrave Shopping Centre in KwaZulu-Natal is set to receive a R140 million makeover, as SA Corporate Real Estate Fund has announced plans to improve one their flagship buildings.

The Musgrave Centre in Berea, Durban, has for many years been catering to the needs of shoppers, providing over 100 top-class stores that offer high-quality branded products, as well as an entertainment emporium.

The renovation, which is scheduled for completion in mid 2011, will be aimed at creating a more varied selection of stores whilst improving upon the aesthetics of the centre in a bid to reshuffle the tenant mix and strengthen the shopping centre's image as a premium shopping destination.

Other areas to be affected by the makeover include the common areas in the office tower, the introduction of baby changing rooms, new lighting and flooring, as well as installing additional escalators between levels.

A new parkade will be built, increasing the number of parking bays in the centre, and an Identipark parking management system will be introduced electronically directing visitors to the nearest vacant parking bay, thereby alleviating congestion.

Various new shops will be introduced to the centre, including Clicks and a Gym.

The renovations at Musgrave Shopping Centre will be conducted with as little interruption and inconvenience to shoppers as possible, halting over the festive season for a short time before resuming next year.
