Massive Fire Closes Kenya Airport| News by Staff Reporter
The international Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi, Kenya has been closed after a massive fire.
The blaze which began around 5am this morning occurred in the International Arrivals building. No casualties have been reported. Incoming air traffic has mostly been diverted to the coastal airport of Mombasa.
Terrorism is not suspected at the moment, even though the event occurs on the fifteenth anniversary of the US Embassy bombings in Nairobi and neighbour Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Police are waiting for the fire to be extinguished before commencing with an investigation into the cause of the conflagration.
Witnesses have criticized the local fire service, saying fire engines were slow to arrive and insufficient in number.
The International Arrivals building has been totally destroyed, and it is not known when normal services will resume. The Jomo Kenyatta Airport in Nairobi is the largest air terminal in East Africa.
