New vehicle sales in Q1 2012 grew at a slower rate than the same period last year, according to the National Association of Automobile Manufacturers SA (Naamsa).

The number of liquidations and insolvencies in SA has decreased

The number of liquidations in South Africa for the first four months of 2012 fell by 36,6% compared to the same period in 2011, according to Stats SA.

Stats SA said the number of liquidations from January to April 2012 declined by 36,6% compared to the same four-month period the previous year.

“A year-on-year decrease of 13,9% was recorded for April 2012,” added the statistics firm.

There was also a 17,1% drop in the number of insolvencies for the first quarter of 2012 compared to the same period in 2011.

For March 2012 a year-on-year decrease of 21,1% was estimated in the number of insolvencies in SA, said the firm.
