The number of liquidations and insolvencies is down, according to Stats SA


Liquidations and insolvencies during January 2012 were both seen to decrease when compared with the previous year, according to Statistics SA.

The statistics firm said the number of liquidations for January 2012 dropped by 36,1% year-on-year, while for the three months ended January 2012 a decrease of 6,2% year-on-year was recorded.

Insolvencies were also seen to drop, with a decrease of 28,6% year-on-year recorded for 2011. The fourth quarter of 2011 saw 17,2% fewer insolvencies than the corresponding period in 2010, said Stats SA.

A year-on-year decrease of 17,2% was estimated for December 2011, added the statistics firm.
