Google Takes A Look Inside| Technical by Staff ReporterUsers will be able to peek inside shops and restaurants with Google Maps Google Maps has announced plans to take its Street View a step further by allowing users to view the interior of various shops and businesses found on its maps. For users this would mean being able to peek inside restaurants or theatres before making reservations, and for businesses this would introduce a new avenue for marketing themselves. “Building on the Google Art Project, which took Street View technology inside 17 acclaimed museums, this project is another creative implementation of Street View technology, to help businesses as they build their online presence,” said a spokesperson for Google. “We hope to enable businesses to highlight the qualities that make their locations stand out through professional, high-quality imagery.” Google said it would begin the process of photographing building interiors by inviting the most searched types of businesses, including restaurants, hotels, gyms, shops and vehicle repair shops, to take part in the scheme. The firm said the service would be rolled out initially in the United States, London, Paris, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. Google said as is the case with Street View bystanders’ faces would be blurred out of any pictures or the company would refuse to use them, and it had also been made clear that hospitals and lawyers’ offices were being excluded from the project. Google added that any images taken during photo shoots become the property of the firm and may be used for other applications as well, and that while business owners may request the removal of their pictures the terms and conditions do not oblige Google to comply.
