Google+ Users Skyrocket

Google+ was inundated with a flood of visitors when it went public last week after operating on an invite-only basis, according to Experian Hitwise.The site’s online traffic increased a remarkable 1,269% the day after the need to be invited (as a requirement to join) was lifted.
Hitwise said the number of visits to Google+ over the past week amounted to almost 15 million compared to 1,1 million visitors the week before.
“In just one week, Google+ went from ranking as 54th most visited site in our Social Networking and Forums category to 8th place,” said Heather Dougherty, Hitwise research director.
According to Paul Allen, co-founder of Ancestry.com, Google+ has reached 43,4 million users worldwide. He says roughly a third of these were added in the few days since the site went public.
“The growth rate has skyrocketed to rates we only saw during the first week of its field test, back when it had a small number of users to begin with,” said Allen.
