DA Says Toll Boards Misleading

| News by Staff Reporter

The Democratic Alliance said Sanral was trying to paint itself in the best possible light

The Democratic Alliance on Monday said the SA National Roads Agency (Sanral) was misleading the public at toll gantries by displaying only the discounted rate.

DA Member of the Provincial Legislature (MPL) Neil Campbell said in a statement on Monday that the agency’s “incomplete disclosure” of tariff information at toll gantries was a tactic to portray itself in the “best possible light”.

According to Campbell, “All three tariffs on all classes of vehicles should, and must, be displayed to the road user.

“I will be referring this failure... to the National Consumer Commission,” he said.

Sanral have displayed only the toll fees associated with E-tag users with E-toll accounts.

“The so-called ‘standard’ rate which one would assume to be the ‘normal’ rate has been totally ignored by Sanral, as has the ‘alternate’ rate which will be charged for non-registered users,” added Campbell.
