Credit Growth Rising, But Slowly

| News by Staff Reporter

Growth in demand for credit was slower than expected in October

The central bank on Tuesday said growth in credit demand by South Africa’s private sector was 5,52% year-on-year in October from a slightly revised 5,42% rise in September.

This figure was, however, lower than expected with economists forecasting an increase to around 5,62% year-on-year in October.

Growth in the broadly defined M3 measure of money supply was seen to increase to 7,26% year-on-year in October compared to 6,8% in September, the central bank reported.

Economists had forecast growth in the M3 measure of money supply to quicken to 6,7% year-on-year.
