BB Users Offered Compensation by Providers| Technical by Staff ReporterSouth African service providers have offered compensation for BlackBerry users Following the three-day blackout BlackBerry users around the world were subjected to Vodacom, Cell C and Virgin Mobile have announced that they would be compensating their South African users. This is according to MyBroadband, who said Cell C on Thursday announced it would compensate its BlackBerry customers with a R10 discount on the BIS (BlackBerry Intenet Service) fee for October as well as receiving ten free SMSes. “While Cell C had no role in the service disruption,” read a Cell C press statement, “the company wants to ensure customers are compensated for the loss of service as a gesture of goodwill. “Customers will receive more information about the compensation via SMS next week,” said Cell C. Vodacom today (Friday) announced a similar compensation package for its BlackBerry users comprising 20 free Vodacom to Vodacom minutes to use between 17 October and 21 October as well as 20 free SMSes. “Many BlackBerry users have been denied the service for three successive days, which is unusually long,” said Portia Maurice, Vodacom’s chief officer of corporate affairs. “It is only fitting that we do this as a gesture of appreciation for their patience.” Maurice added that Vodacom would not be able to offer compensation every time a supplier encounters a problem, but that this was an exception. Virgin mobile also announced that it would be compensating its BlackBerry users with R50 free airtime in October. MTN have yet to comment on a compensation package for users affected by the BlackBerry service disruption. Source: www.bizpremises.co.za |
