April CPI comes in at 4,8%

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April 2010 for all urban areas compared with April the previous year (headline inflation rate) was 4,8 percent, according to figures released by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA).The official inflation rate, which is the percentage change in CPI for all urban areas for the period of April 2010 compared with April 2009, was 4,8 percent; 0,3 of a percentage point lower than the corresponding annual rate of 5,1 percent in March 2010 compared with March 2009.
The Consumer Price Index for all urban areas increased from March 2010 to April 2010 by 0,2 of a percentage point.
The CPI figure was lower than expected by most economists who were predicting inflation of around 5,0 percent.
